Punch App Setup: IP Restrictions & Common Error
When enabling the Punch App in TimeWellScheduled, you must choose how employees will be punching in and out.
This setting directly affects whether IP access restrictions are required.
Common Setup Error
If you see this message:
“The IP you are trying from is not a registered IP.”
It means:
- You selected “Will punch from specific punch device, enforce access restrictions”
- But you have not added an IP address in Access Restrictions.
This is the most common issue during initial setup.
Step 1: Choose Your Punching Method
When enabling the Punch App, you will select one of the following:
Option 1
Will punch from specific punch device, enforce access restrictions
Use this option if:
- Employees punch from a fixed device (ex. store tablet, front desk computer, mounted kiosk)
- You want to restrict punching to your workplace network only
If you choose this option, you MUST configure IP access restrictions.
Follow this article to complete setup – Setting Up Access Restrictions
Without this step, punching will be blocked.
Option 2
Will punch from their own device (ex. may be on the road or various locations), do not check access restrictions
Use this option if:
- Employees punch from personal phones
- Staff work remotely
- Employees travel between job sites
- You do not want IP enforcement
No IP setup is required for this option.
Why IP Restrictions Exist
IP restrictions protect your account by ensuring punches can only occur from approved networks or devices.
If enabled but not configured properly, the system cannot validate the punch location — which triggers the error message.
