Stat Holiday Overtime Eligibility (British Columbia)

Table of Contents

In British Columbia, employees must meet specific eligibility criteria to receive overtime (OT) for working on a statutory holiday.

TimeWellScheduled automatically tracks this for you and clearly highlights employee eligibility directly on the schedule.

Understanding the Rule

To qualify for stat holiday overtime (OT) in BC, an employee must meet both of the following conditions:

  1. Employed for at least 30 calendar days prior to the stat holiday
  2. Worked at least 15 of the last 30 days before the stat holiday

If an employee does not meet BOTH conditions, they:

  • ❌ Do NOT qualify for stat hours earned
  • ❌ Do NOT receive overtime for working on the stat holiday

How to Check Eligibility
You can view eligibility in the Stat Hours Earned report.

What to look for:

  • Employed Last 30 Days → must be valid (green)
  • Worked 15 of 30 Days → must be valid (green)

Both columns must be green for the employee to qualify.

How This Appears on the Schedule

On the schedule page, TimeWellScheduled highlights employees who do not yet qualify.

  •  A red label will display:
“DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR STAT OT”

This is shown in advance of the holiday so managers can make informed scheduling decisions.

Why the Label May Disappear
As the stat holiday gets closer:

  • Employees may reach 30 days of employment
  • Employees may accumulate 15 worked days

Once both conditions are met:

  • ✅ The warning label is automatically removed
  • ✅ The employee now qualifies for stat OT

Key Takeaways

  • Eligibility is dynamic and updates daily
  • Employees may not qualify today, but qualify by the holiday
  • The schedule warning helps prevent unexpected payroll costs
