Who can employees message?

TimeWellScheduled includes built-in messaging controls to keep communication focused on work-related topics. By default, employees can only message upward in the role structure, while managers can message downward.
Default Messaging Rules
Admins & Managers
- Admins, Managers, and Supervisors can message anyone in roles below their own.
- This allows leadership to communicate with their team while preventing unwanted lateral or personal messaging.
Employees
- Employees can only message team members in higher
- They cannot message coworkers at the same level or below.
- This ensures the system is used for business communication—not personal chat.
Optional Settings You Can Enable
To provide more flexibility, there are two additional permissions you can activate for employees:
- Can send messages to different roles and departments

- Enabled by default for Admins, Managers, and Supervisors
- When enabled for an employee, they can message users in other roles and other departments
- Useful for multi-department workflows or cross-team coordination
- Can send messages to the role the employee belongs to

- When enabled, employees can message others at the same role level
- Example: All “Employees” can message each other
- Great for teams that need peer-to-peer communication (e.g., shift swaps, quick updates)
To change these security settings
- Go to MANAGE MY BUSINESS
- Go to MANAGE SECURITY GROUPS
- Find the security group mentioned above you want to enable
- Click the checkbox ON for the group you want to have access too
