Employee has been exited by the system

Table of Contents

When an employee forgets to punch out at the end of their shift, the system will automatically “exit” them — closing their timecard using their scheduled end time.

How recorded time is determined

TimeWellScheduled always records the lesser of the scheduled time or the actual punched time, favouring the company:

  • Clocked out early? The early punch-out is used.
    (Scheduled 9–5, clocked out at 3 → paid 9–3)
  • Clocked out late? The scheduled end time is used.
    (Scheduled 9–5, clocked out at 6 → paid 9–5)
  • Didn’t clock out? The system exits the employee at their scheduled end time — but flags it for your attention.

What “Exited by the System” means

This status indicates the employee never punched out. The system has assumed they worked until their scheduled end time and closed the timecard on their behalf. Because this is an assumption — not a confirmed punch — manager approval is required before the time is finalized.

Review the timecard to confirm the recorded hours are accurate before approving.
